Business & Poetry: Reflections from the New London School
When I reflect on my time with the New London School poetry group, I’m struck by how those experiences taught me to embrace the power of authentic self-expression. In that cozy coffee shop, I discovered that writing isn’t about being a tortured artist; it’s about tapping into the aliveness of speaking your truth.
Under the guidance of Tom, our brilliant leader, we formed a close community that nurtured creativity and celebrated each person’s unique voice. Sharing our poetry taught us to shed our inhibitions and be authentic.
Even in today’s pop culture, we see artists drawing from the timeless themes of self-expression and authenticity. From Taylor Swift’s latest album, which nods to Dead Poets Society, to countless other works, the message is clear: the key to creating impactful art is tapping into our truest selves and embracing the aliveness that comes with it.
As a writer with a diverse background, I’ve learned that the same principles that make great poetry can enliven writing in all kinds of contexts. By bringing strategic creativity, insightful problem-solving, and heartfelt urgency to my work, I’ve discovered that I can craft content that not only meets objectives but also feels real.
Just like a poet carefully chooses each word to evoke emotion and convey meaning, I approach business writing with the same intention and care. By drawing on my poetic sensibilities, I’ve found that I can connect with readers on a human level.
To fellow writers, marketers, and leaders, I invite you to embrace the poet within and bring authenticity to your own writing. By staying true to your voice and speaking to your audience’s shared experiences, you can build stronger connections and inspire others to embrace their own aliveness.
As I continue my journey as a writer, I’m grateful for what the New London School taught me about the power of words and the importance of being true to yourself. In a world where so much is remixed and recycled, it’s the realness in our voices that sets us apart and lets us make a lasting impact.
So embrace your inner poet, speak your truth, and let your unique voice shine through in your writing. Because when we share our authentic selves, we find the connection, joy, and aliveness we’re all looking for.
